When it’s the right call

When you need the sun on a stand — daylight punching through windows, big bounced keys, or filling day exteriors. HMI gives roughly four times the light of tungsten per watt, already daylight-balanced.

Where to set it up

Classic move: outside a window through diffusion for 'real daylight' interiors, or bounce it into an ultrabounce for a huge soft source. Needs its ballast and serious power — wall circuits max out; the 7kW generator carries it happily.

Get the most out of it

• Through a 12x12 grid cloth it becomes a wall of soft daylight
• Add the Parallel Beam Intensifier to throw a hard sun shaft across a whole room
• Let it strike and cool properly — never hot-restrike an HMI
